Research Provides Unique Detail and Confirms Pervasive Data Integrator as the Category Value Leader

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Pervasive Software® Inc. (NasdaqNM: PVSW), a global value leader in embeddable data management and agile integration software, today announced that Bloor Research identified Pervasive as the leader among data integration software vendors in its report titled "Comparative Costs and Uses of Data Integration Platforms."

The survey polled customers of the leading integration vendors as well as users of open source products. The published report provides hard numbers about multiple types of integration scenarios and the real multi-year costs of using data integration platforms, including hardware, staffing and maintenance costs. Bloor Research's comparisons cover products from IBM, Business Objects (SAP), Informatica and open source. Pervasive Data Integrator™ is reported to be the "best value for the money on a cost per project basis" as well as the most popular single technology for tackling all types of projects.

"Bloor Research has set out to discover how data integration platforms are being used in practice," explained Philip Howard, data management research director for Bloor Research. "We wanted to get an idea of both the initial and ongoing costs involved with using different products and report the most cost-effective solutions over a realistic period. Across the board, Pervasive was found to be the most popular and suitable for all types of data integration projects."

To determine the actual costs and uses of data integration platforms, Bloor Research surveyed IT managers of more than 200 companies responsible for more than 5,000 total data integration projects. The survey results provide detailed comparisons of the types and numbers of integration scenarios for which each product is used, average project length, numbers of sources and targets per project, the time required to learn/implement each product and total cost of ownership.

According to the survey results, there are disparities as great as 4x in the cost of delivering integration projects. Pervasive Data Integrator was considered the best option for multiple types and sizes of projects and was cost and value leader, out-performing even open source offerings. Pervasive offered the:

Lowest initial cost
Lowest ongoing cost of ownership
Lowest total cost of ownership over 5 years
Lowest total cost per project
Highest overall value (cost vs. productivity)

"All too often, data integration vendors make aggressive claims about the speed and value of their products. The Bloor Research survey will help customers make informed decisions based on real data and experience," said Mike Hoskins, Pervasive CTO and general manager of Integration products at Pervasive. "Our commitment to providing organizations with cost-effective, highly-scalable, end-to-end data and application integration is evident in the responses to the Bloor Research survey. Regardless of the size or complexity of the project, Pervasive integration can ease the burden of struggling with heterogeneous data."

Additional insights from the survey results include:

When it comes to assessing real projects, companies are more likely to reuse a single tool that they are familiar with rather than look into a new multiple product offering.
The use of SOA for data integration initiatives is in its infancy.
Custom-coded solutions typically involve fewer sources and targets and take longer to deliver than tool-based approaches.
There is a direct correlation between the cost of a product and the time involved in needs analysis.
There also is a direct correlation between the cost of a product and the length of the project.
The more expensive products took longer to learn and adopt.
